‘There needs to be a reckoning’: NGO turns up the heat for NPA, Hawks to probe state capture

With all parts of the state capture report now published, civil society group Open Secrets is gearing up for the new challenge – getting SA’s law enforcement agencies to act.
This week, the Cape Town-based NGO, which investigates economic crimes, published a 150-page report into two dozen “urgent” cases against “looters, fixers, and politicians” at four state-owned entities.
The report, Wanted: The State Capture Conspirators, serves both as a reference guide to who is accused of what, and a jeremiad against years of inaction by the police, the Hawks and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
The NGO wants to use it to pressure law enforcement and Parliament to act: their rationale is that after reading it, no one can claim that they ‘didn’t know’.
