Non-profit organisation Open Secrets, and the Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) has launched an urgent application in the North Gauteng High, seeking the names of all permit holders authorised to export arms to Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Since 2017, Saudi Arabia stands accused of violating international human rights law, and international humanitarian law. According to a joint statement by Open Secrets and SALC, since the conflict in Yemen started, South Africa has also exported arms to Saudi and the UAE. The two human rights organisations have called for a review of these decisions by the National Conventional Arms Control Committee.
